BOS 5K Mini Phototelectric Sensors
The BOS 5K sensor family provides a cost effective solution for assembly, material handling, and pick-and-place applications.
Versatility in a cost effective, miniature housing

Mini BOS 5K Phototelectric Sensor

A cost-effective solution to background suppression (BGS) applications, the BOS 5K incorporates a 6-turn potentiometer for precise switch point setting. It also boasts accurate and color-independent differentiation of objects and changes in background. An injection-molded housing makes the BOS 5K one of the most rugged sensors in its class.

Offering thru-beam, retroreflective, and diffuse models with a full selection of apertures to narrow the beam pattern, the BOS 5K sensor family is ideal for assembly, material handling, and pick-and-place applications.

BOS 5K with BGS tackles circuit board orientation
Application: Verifying circuit boards are right-side-up.
Solution: Locate landmark components to determine correct board orientation. By passing the boards under the BOS 5K with BGS and using a second sensor as a trigger, the control distinguished between a board being present and a board being present right-side-up. The spot size and accuracy of the BOS 5K were ideal for seeing components on the circuit board, and improved the customers’ accuracy by over 30%. Uptime was increased, and a full return on investment was realized in less than four weeks.

Apertures save the day
In complex “part-out” die stamping applications, a common requirement is a compact sensor. The BOS 5K sensors shown here were used for part-out verification. Apertures, which narrow and define the beam, were used on the BOS 5K so it could shape the beam to shoot through a slit in the die. The sensors were protected with Balluff's new heavy duty bracket to make it a robust solution. In addition, the powerful IR light source of the thru-beam pair was quite effective at burning through the “mist” created by lubricants in the die.
