Reliable IP67 Connections Using Torque Wrenches
Prevent electrical shorts and/or damage to sensors, multiple interface blocks or even PLC modules by ensuring an IP67 connection.

A problem today is not knowing if a connection between sensor and cordset, two cordsets, or between a sensor cordset and a multiple interface block is IP67 until it is too late. Although the individual components have ratings of IP67, this rating means nothing if the components are not properly tightened together. This is especially critical in areas that have potentially wet conditions from grease, hydraulic fluid, or coolant that were not initially considered. Balluff offers an ideal solution using cordsets that have a hexagonal coupling nut with a calibrated torque wrench to tighten the connection to the proper torque rating which ensures an IP67 rating, giving peace of mind that the connection is properly sealed.

IP67 rating is guaranteed when the proper certified torque wrench is used
Short term submersion is no longer a concern
Unforeseen leaks or flooding do not cause unnecessary damage

Known Wet Environment

Sensor cordsets and multiple interface blocks are used many times in areas that are known wet environments. In these conditions, there is a potential for liquid to short out at the point of connection between cordset and multiple interface block. Balluff offers a complete solution for wet conditions consisting of: a multiple interface block, a cordset, and a torque wrench tool. Balluff’s new line of cordsets have a unique hexagonal coupling nut, which allows the use of a torque wrench. This wrench gives feedback when a proper pressure has been reached.
In this scenario there is a connection between cordsets, with the final connection to a sensor. This scenario is characteristic of home run cables, patch cables, and adapter cables. The connection between cordsets can sometimes lie in an unexpected, oily or wet environment at the bottom of a work cell. By using a combination of a new Balluff cordset with hexagonal coupling nut and a properly calibrated torque wrench, the sensor connection is IP67 guaranteed. By ratcheting when the connection is properly sealed, it does not allow over-torque, which can be just as bad as too little torque.
