IP69K Washdown Sensors
Balluff has a variety of sensor options for food and beverage to withstand high-pressure wash down, high temperatures, and caustic materials.

Balluff’s IP69K capacitive sensors are made of highly durable PSU plastic composite to withstand wash down and resist coolants, oils, and chemicals. They also withstand temperatures up to 260° F in pressurized vessels up to 145 psi. As part of Balluff’s SmartLevel™ technology, they are able to compensate for extensive material buildup, foaming, and filming - making them perfect for liquid level applications in the food and beverage industry. Balluff’s BOS 18E photoelectric sensor series have gun-drilled, solid stainless steel enclosures and have proven to be workhorses in the most demanding of manufacturing conditions. The 18E was designed for washdown situations like food production or where caustic substances (lactic, citric, hydrochloric or sulfuric acids) may corrode or melt photoelectric sensor enclosures and/or lenses. This makes the 18E series ideal for object detection in food and beverage applications. See all IP69K photoelectric sensors

Liquid Level Detection

Common liquid level applications in food processing and manufacturing applications need simple point-level detection in filling stations or hoppers, while requiring the sensors to withstand frequent wash downs during cleaning procedures. Varying compositions of liquids during production runs as well as material buildup and scaling create an additional challenge to level sensing devices. Balluff MicroLevel™ series only need to be positioned at the actual sensing location using a M12 or 1/4” NPT connection in the tank or container. SmartLevel technology will assure proper adjustment to the actual sensing conditions offering true mount-it-and-forget convenience.

Can Presence Detection

In automated canning processes, it is important to maximize uptime and keep the line running. As shown above, the BOS 18M sensor is doing dual duty as a sensor counting product as well as detecting line jams. If the line stops, the controller sees a lack of on-to-off transitions of cans and signals an alarm. This sensor is also used as a trigger to the upstream processes of placing the lid on the top and adding the label to the outside of the can. In between production runs, the IP69K rating of the BOS 18M is ideal for resisting the harsh cleaning solvents commonly used in food facilities.
