Easy ID Solutions - Read-only RFID
Balluff’s Easy ID RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) products provide a cost effective and effortless way to reliably track your work-in-progress manufacturing process. Easy ID read-only RFID systems are ideal when tracking alone is required and when data can be stored centrally in the control system. The process is tracked by reading the reference or ID, which is like a license plate from the RFID tag. Then, that ID is used to connect and reference additional data from the central controller, such as assembly, test data, storage location, and other information from the process. The details of each step in manufacturing or logistics are then connected to provide maximum visibility of the process. Benefits include:
- 100% data reliability, unlike other methods such as bar coding
- Significantly greater visibility into your process
- Greater control and management of the process
- Reduce or eliminate errors for process error proofing
- Reduce costly mistakes and rework
- Provide faster return on your investment
Interfacing Solutions Balluff Easy ID systems provide several simple connection solutions to fit your application. Our connection solutions vary from simple discrete I/O connections, to full Ethernet TCP/IP, providing the greatest flexibility for integration into your new or existing applications. This simple integration also includes an RS-232 version offering compatibility to many bar code readers for faster retrofit to an RFID system.
Parallel I/O These products are the most cost effective way to implement a read-only RFID system. The simplest and most flexible Balluff Easy ID products are the parallel I/O versions. Some versions incorporate both the read head and processor into a single unit while others provide compact remote heads – some as small as a M12 proximity sensor body style. These products are capable of communicating up to 5 bytes of data in a binary numbering format using discrete I/O lines and can be connected directly to PLC I/O cards or to remote I/O blocks. By using a binary conversion function in the PLC, the 8 bit binary value can be converted to any other numbering format or ASCII character. This system can even replace most proximity sensor-based pallet ID methods with greater reliability and no maintenance.

Serial These serial versions can be the most reliable and cost effective way to replace most bar code methods. The serial interface versions of Balluff Easy ID products are well suited for small quantities of read-only stations allowing simple RS-232 or RS-422 communications between PLC’s or PC systems. The serial versions provide an ASCII string output containing the hexadecimal tag data automatically whenever a tag is within range of the head. These versions are also available with self-contained processors with head or remote head styles to provide maximum application flexibility.

Daisy Chain Serial/Ethernet TCP/IP Easy Loop is the ideal low-cost system for multiple read-only station conveying and pallet tracking applications. Balluff Easy Loop RFID systems allow up to 16 read-only stations to be connected directly to a PLC via RS-422 or indirectly to a PC or PLC using a simple communication module using RS-232 or an Ethernet TCP/IP interface. The Easy Loop system reports the data from each read-only station in ASCII strings, allowing reliable use in a deterministic application. It’s also a simple system to implement with both data and power contained in the same cable connections making connection and setup a breeze. With no bus settings to make or adjust, additional stations can be added or removed without difficulty. |
