Right Angle Thru-Beam
L-frame, self-contained thru-beam sensors offer the benefits of thru-beam fiber optics without the hassles.

L-frame standard and heavy duty Fiber optic thru-beam sensors offer numerous advantages, such as the ability to burn through dirt and debris; precision sensing and small-part detection; and highly repeatable. Unfortunately, fiber optics are problematic with time consuming installation and initial alignment, misalignment when jarred, and general mechanical fragility.

Balluff’s BWL sensors are self-contained, right angle thru-beam sensors that retain all the performance advantages of a fiber optic solution but eliminate the alignment and mechanical issues. The rugged L-frame housings contain both emitter and receiver elements with pre-aligned optics, providing easy installation, and an end to misalignment nuisances.

  • Cut installation time and alignment hassles
  • Rugged construction stands up to rough environments
  • A choice of visible red, laser, or high-power infrared light sources
  • Precision sensing detects small shape variations
  • Detects parts from different directions or angles

Parts counting

For simple part counting applications, thru-beam sensors are the most reliable solution to implement. It is often difficult to fit traditional sensor styles on conveyors and other equipment where obstructions can impede mounting. Balluff’s BWL L-shaped, thru-beam sensors fit virtually anywhere and are simple to install, requiring no additional adjustment and a single cable for wiring.
Part Detection

Transfer presses and automated assembly equipment are common places where shovel grippers are used for holding parts during an operation, or for moving parts within the machine. Failure to seat the part properly in the gripper can lead to downtime or damage of equipment. The BWL Heavy Duty series is an excellent choice for this application because of its unique form factor and impact-resistant housing.
