Non-contact Feeder Bowl Level Control with Photoelectric Background Suppression Sensor
Bowl level detection with diffuse and background suppression sensors.

Bowl level detection is often accomplished with the use of a contact arm, but some medical and pharmaceutical specifications prohibit this method. Moreover, small or lightweight parts present a problem for some contact arms. For these applications a photoelectric sensor is required.

The addition of background suppression increases reliability of diffuse sensors. This photoelectric sensor type operates similarly to the diffuse-only type but instead of triggering based on the amount of reflected light, it triggers off the position of reflected light. Also known as triangulation, this feature eliminates color variations and the shinny bowl surface from affecting the sensing position.

Balluff has developed the 26K, an advanced background suppression sensor, ideal for feeder bowl level applications.
Advantages of 26K with Background Suppression include:

  • True adjustable depth-of-field adjustable
  • Sensing distance holds true regardless of product color
  • Ignores reflective bottoms of feeder bowls
  • Works with bowls up to 24” deep
  • Rugged housing resists impacts

Typical Components:
Sensor - PNP:  BOS 26K-PA-1IE-S4-C
Sensor - NPN:  BOS 26K-NA-1IE-S4-C
Bracket -  BOS 26 HW-1 (.pdf)
