Balluff's Q40 inductive proximity cube sensor with Factor 1 technology delivers maximum sensing range in a small footprint, with weld field immunity and the ability to sense aluminum and steel at the same distance.

Balluff offers a number of protective accessories for the Q40 sensor that extend the application envelope by protecting the housing from the mechanical hostilities of the welding environment.

Welding Cell: Part Present Detection Sensor
In the hostile welding environment, inductive cube sensors are exposed to impact and weld slag. Therefore, Balluff offers protective options: A Delrin™ cover (BES Q40-SH-2) can be used as a bunker to protect the sensor from impact and weld slag; A brass cover with PTFE face shield (BES Q40-SH-1), can provide strong weld slag resistance and increase the amount of protection from heat on the face. If space is critical, Balluff’s SlagMaster coating can be applied directly to the face for protection from weld slag and damage. An additional accessory is the metal mounting bracket (BES Q40-HW-2) instead of the standard plastic bracket.

Packaging Line: Can Accumulator Backup Sensor
In a packaging line where cans of various sizes and/or materials are being run on the same line, there is a need for a sensor to perform equally no matter what the type of metal target material. Balluff Factor 1 sensors are specifically designed with multi-metal  functionality in mind. Aluminum cans are a difficult target to detect due to their thin walls and low inductance. The Factor 1 Q40 sensor not only detects the cans as they backup in the accumulator, but it also detects the cans at a distance much greater than a standard tubular proximity sensor, with one of the models having a sensing range of 40 mm. Unlike other Factor 1 sensor options, the Q40 cube sensor combines multi-metal sensing with the longest range of all the standard sensor form factors.
