Description of System and Options
The Balluff Cam Switch System consists of two basic elements:
1. A rugged multiple limit switch assembly with configurable limit switch inserts (wide variety of options).
2. A set of linear or rotary cams and associated mounting tray.
Applications
Industrial applications include automatic equipment requiring precise and repeatable on-off position indication in severe operating environments such as machine tool cutting and cooling fluids, shock, vibration, flying chips, and temperature variation.
The Balluff Cam Switch System is ideal for robot dynamic safety zone control. Positive break safety switches coupled with high switching element density, rugged construction, and long life expectancy combine to produce a perfect match for a safe and reliable human-robot interface.

Actuation and Switching Systems
You can choose from three actuation and output switching systems.
- Mechanical/Mechanical
A mechanical cam trips a mechanical plunger, which actuates an electro-mechanical switch element through a sealed membrane. Best for highest level of switchpoint stability and repeatability.
- Mechanical/Electronic
A mechanical cam trips a mechanical plunger. The metallic plunger is sensed internally by an inductive sensor and the output signal is switched electronically. Perfect for extremely low DC current switching in heavy metallic chip areas that would false trip an inductive sensor.
- Inductive/Electronic
Metallic cam is sensed by an inductive sensor element, which changes state electronically to activate the output signal. Non-contact operation for wear-free service in areas without metallic chips.

Plungers
For mechanically-actuated types, choose between five plunger styles:
- Chisel-tipped for highly repeatable switchpoints at lower speeds over short cams
- Chisel-tipped with wiper/scraper rings to prevent sticking due to residue
- Ball-tipped for multi-directional cam approach
- Roller-tipped with axle bushing for higher speeds
- Roller-tipped with ball-bearing axle for maximum speed and long cams
Safety and/or Overtravel Limit Switch Elements
Balluff has two types of positive-drive NC limit switch elements available that conform to VDE 0113 standards. These NC elements are forced open by a rigid plunger, providing assurance against welded contacts. Mix safety switch elements with standard mechanical or inductive elements to provide an assured overtravel signal.
Viton
Balluff Cam Switches are built standard with Viton membranes and seals.
Inductive Sensor Elements
Choose from a range of voltage and logic configurations: AC, DC, PNP, NPN, NO, NC, 2-wire, 3-wire, 4-wire.
LED Function Display
Cam switches with electro-mechanical switching elements are available with optional LED displays. Cam switches with electronic switching elements come with output function display LEDs as standard.
Factory Pre-wired Connectors
Factory pre-wired connectors allow rapid installation on new equipment and rapid replacement in event of failure during operation. Balluff will wire the connector according to your custom specifications. Your custom configuration will receive a unique part number. All documentation will be maintained indefinitely by Balluff, so that an exact replacement can be ordered at any time. Factory pre-wired connectors are 100% individually tested before shipment, ensuring that the wiring is correct. Just hook it up and go!
