Monitoring workpiece and tool clamping

A workpiece can only be machined correctly and in consistent quality if it is firmly seated in the lathe chuck. In addition to sensors with a switching output, BIP inductive position measuring systems with a continuous output signal are increasingly being used to perform this task.

Likewise, the linear positioning measurement offers reliable monitoring of tool clamping – even when the clamping mechanism is rotating. To do this, the position of a metal cam which moves past the sensor laterally is recorded.

Our extensive range of measuring systems – from just a few millimetres to lengths of up to 130 mm – ensures that you have the highest precision for different dimensions.

The BIS C in LF (Low Frequency) and BIS M in HF (High Frequency) industrial RFID systems ensure that the CNC control system in milling machinery and machining centres always has the correct tool data (number, diameter, length, cutting edges, etc.). When reliably identified and transmitted, these parameters also form the basis for an optimised and high-quality tool asset management system, including tool life monitoring.

Hydraulic presses (long strokes, low stroke rates) achieve nominal force over the entire stroke length. Magnetostrictive BTL position measuring systems monitor positions whereby the position encoder is attached to the moving part of the press and the rod with distance measuring element to the fixed part. Insensitive to mechanical shocks, the high measuring value precision and update rate result in optimum machine usage.

BES inductive sensors are used to record end positions in portal loading systems. To do this, it is sufficient to attach a metal switching flag at the desired position. This is detected by the sensors – contactless and wear-free – in order to transmit the correct switching signal to the control system.

Depending on the version, BUS ultrasonic sensors can be used for switching signal-based two-point control or for permanent fill level control. Users therefore benefit from maximum flexibility when choosing the right type of monitoring for them.
