Continuously and reliably managing high temperatures and magnetic fields is a top priority for every steelworker. Some of its important tasks are water cooling, safe supply and discharge of gas when producing pig iron in a blast furnace and positioning of electrodes in an arc furnace. Sensors for detecting color and contrast support the positioning of electrodes in the arc furnace. The sensor, which is protected in the gripper checks whether it has been gripped correctly using color markings on the electrode.
Balluff BES inductive sensors deliver convincing performance, particularly in the rough conditions of the steel industry. Weld field immune and insensitive to magnetic fields, they are extremely reliable in ensuring the correct electrode position at the arc furnace.
Our BTL magnetostrictive linear position sensors are excellent for the control of valves and flaps at the blast furnace. They help to reliably regulate supply and return air in pig iron production. Alternatively, you can use inductive BES standard sensors. A temperature sensor is integrated in the electronics head for all BTL magnetostrictive linear position sensors with a bus interface. This guarantees the correct temperature measurement.
Balluff BSP pressure sensors are optimally suited for use in steel mills. With their extremely low drift, they can guarantee a long, stable pressure measurement process during water cooling at blast and arc furnaces.
Balluff BUS ultrasonic sensors are perfect for monitoring stack heights on conveyor belts as well as fill levels in silos. Under the harsh conditions of the steel mill, they detect objects made of many materials. This means that they guarantee that the blast furnaces are always reliably charged, even if there is dust and dirt caused by charges and coke.
