Contact-less transmission of power and data
Fixed wiring of sensors and actuators has its disadvantages. Cables and contacts are frequently heavily stressed in automation so that cables can fatigue and break, thus resulting in a often costly unplanned downtime.
Balluff portfolio of inductive couplers offer unique contact less solution to transmit data and power across an air gap. Thus, no mechanical wear to worry about. The system availability is higher, the cycle times are shorter, the sequences are more flexible. The units can quickly be disconnected, are easy to handle and maintenance-free. enabling you to meet new demands quickly. As the inductive couplers are IP67 encased devices they are practically immune to water, dust and any other debris in the environment. The data transfer uses magnetic induction- even a barrier between the transmitter and receiver does not stop the data flow.
With inductive couplers, power and data are transferred in contactless manner across an air gap. This renders mechanical plug-in contacts useless. If our bidirectional coupling system is used with IO-Link, the data can also be transmitted in both directions for example reading and writing RFIF tags or driving an output for a valve connector.
The IO-Link inductive coupler acts as a bridge, fully transparent to the system and there is no configuration needed. You can very easily integrate it between IO-Link-Master and IO-Link-Device.
The system has a complete IO-Link interface, regardless of the IO-Link version. Events, parameters and process data are thus exchanged directly between master and device.
Balluff inductive coupler system is designed for up to eight sensor signals and eight actuator drive signals. The system is bi-directional, which means it transmits signals in both directions. Its remote unit can drive on an individual basis and operate clamping units. From the base up to eight signals are transferable, the four output channels can be driven independent of each other.
Fast format changes are exceptionally important for high productivity. However, these are often made substantially more difficult through plug-in contacts, for example with the gripper changes on the robot.
Balluff's power only inductive couplers transmit contactless power across an air gap. Mechanical plugs that can have wear and tear are no longer needed.. This ensures freedom from wear, guarantees prompt tool change and provides great flexibility.
Balluff offers inductive couplers, both IO-Link and discrete multi-signal, in a compact 40mm x 40mm housing - ideally suited for robot end of arm connections.
With robotic tool changers, the challenge is mating the multi-pin connectors- these connectors have pins that wear out due to constant connection and disconnection. Eventually, this causes an unplanned downtime. With Balluff inductive couplers, mechanical plugs are things of the past.
The IO-Link inductive coupler adds another advantage- several times mechanical sensors or RFID is used to ensure that the robot has picked up the right tools. With IO-Link inductive couplers combined with Balluff I/O hubs or valve connectors you can store identification information so that prior to engaging the tool it can be verified.
