You can choose between contact-free or with contact. Balluff sensor technology can also be used to measure the fill levels of liquid paste-like media or granular media through plastic tank walls.
Balluff capacitive sensors reliably detect the fill levels of almost all materials from outside of the container. These sensors are wear-free and work without coming in contact with the actual material.
Where fill level measurement is critical for processing or fillng operations, Balluff offers several options for continuous fill level monitoring including ultrasonic sensers, sanitary linear transducers that can be immersed in the liquids and even pressure monioting sensors. Depending on the application need, contact-less or contact based solution can be employed.
Applications to verify proper liquid level in the pipette tip or the dispensing of liquid or that the tip is in the correct position requires a narrow focused light beam in a small housing. Balluff's micro-optic MICROmote photoelectric sensors can easily solve these critical applications. With sensing heads as small as 2mm and "wired fibers" with no minimum bending radius these miniature sensors can easily fit in the smallest of spaces. The remote amplifiers have multiple teach options that can solve the most difficult applications and a variety of outputs that makes integration into control systems quick and easy.
Two levels of blood are monitored in heart-lung machines to indicate when blood drops below the minimum level. Balluff's hybrid capacitive technology can accurately detect the difference in the actual blood level and any blood that inherently adheres to the wall of the reservoir. The sensors are typically adhesively mounted to the blood reservoir at the desired level enabling them to be reused.

In the semiconductor industry level detection in direct contact with media is not a preferred method. However in waste tank level applications direct contact is not an issue. Balluff offers the widest variety of capacitive sensors and mounting methods in the market. Complete Teflon (PTFE) sensors with Teflon switch wells would be the ideal solution for this application. Balluff's hybrid capacitive technology offers the most reliable solution as it would ignore the filming and material build up on the sensor and switch well.
Optimum fill levels should always be maintained in the expansion tanks gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and cooling systems. Balluff's capacitive level sensors detect the maximum and minimum fill levels without direct contact to the media, either through the container wall or with the help of mounting adapters. They can also be installed in the oil pan as a leak sensor and will reliably report the presence of oil where it shouldn't be.
