Transparency in assembly process with RFID

Three kinds of information for successful tracking

Transparency in assembly process with RFID

Manufacturing systems with automated assembly place particular demands on the tracing of rotating stocks. Precise real-time tracking makes complete process transparency possible. With all information on the source of the components used, for example the serial number or batch code and supplier code.
Most automated production lines are also flexible, that is, multiple product versions are manufactured on a single line.

Implementation, process and source information for tracking is essential for the entire assembly process.

Implementation information

Describes all variables during the production of a part. It is immediately apparent what is required for the production of the respective version. Implementation information can be located on site on an RFID tag or in a central database to which the RFID tag refers.

Process information

Includes the results of all in-process tests as well as the poka-yoke devices. Therefore, they are primarily used to improve work flow and for archiving. In workflow control, in-process test results are forwarded to the process accordingly so that it can be adapted.
If a part fails the test, it can be guided directly past the downstream areas to reworking, where the technician obtains an exact description of the problem. Thanks to archiving, all data is available after production as well.

Source information

Enables the tracking of all components used in the final assembly. The data is consolidated with the process information. The entire production process of a product is thereby documented. This is a must for a possible recall as well as for observing legal provisions.
