Wireless data transmission with IO-Link Wireless

Unprecedented possibilities for your IO-Link system

IO-Link Wireless is an ideal addition to your existing IO-Link system for machines and systems: The reliability with which IO-Link connects your sensors, actuators and IO-Link devices remains the same. Your existing setup remains unchanged. No sensor needs to be replaced; no actuator needs to be upgraded - there are no incompatibilities. With IO-Link wireless technology, you can easily bring your proven system to a new level and open up additional potential for the future.

An ideal complement to proven IO-Link systems and solutions

IO-Link Wireless is a physical-level extension of IO-Link that defines wireless communication between sensors/actuators and the control system (PLC) in industrial automation. This extension makes the IO-Link communication standard suitable for new challenges and creates completely new possibilities for monitoring and controlling your machines and systems. This is because IO-Link Wireless brings IO-Link into areas of machines and systems where its use was previously not possible.

Flexible, reliable and fully compatible with wired IO-Link

Wired IO-Link systems become wireless-capable with the IO-Link Wireless Master. This expansion gives you many new options and significantly more flexibility in data transmission while maintaining system integration and compatibility. The IO-Link wireless system is also configured in the same familiar and proven way, since the integrated web server can be used as before to configure the IO-Link wireless master.

Purpose-made for applications with limited space, high speeds or complex motion

Wireless technology creates enormous potential, especially where space is narrow and winding or things are moving fast. For example, deployment in the field of robotics enables platforms and grippers to be used in a highly versatile manner and in the most complex motion sequences, while the data is just as available and reliable as usual via IO-Link wireless technology. If, in addition, the energy is transmitted wirelessly, for example via inductive couplers, this enables processes and movement sequences to be consistently monitored and precisely controlled wirelessly.

Advantages of IO-Link Wireless at a glance

  • Full compatibility with wired IO-Link systems

  • Offers flexibility and agility due to a transmission rate of 1 byte/5ms

  • High reliability due to a very low packet data error rate of 10⁻⁹

  • Wireless range up to 10 meters (20 meters with a single-track master)

  • Uses frequency hopping to use free, unused frequency bands

  • Blacklisting mechanism ensures its coexistence with other wireless systems

  • Scalability to connect up to 40 IO-Link devices to a 5-track master, since the IO-Link Wireless master can connect to more sensors than the wired version

  • Connects standard sensors via the IO-Link Wireless hub

  • Connects existing IO-Link devices to the IO-Link Wireless master using the IO-Link Wireless bridge

  • The IO-Link Wireless Bridge does not have to be connected directly to an actuator or sensor but can also be connected via a cable
