Product Guide: Sensors for Object Detection

If the detection has to be done with no physical contact between the sensor and the recognized object, we have a variety of contactless sensors to choose from. Selecting the one that best suits your needs will depend on the distance between the sensor and the object, as well as on the of material which is your object is made of.

If only certain objects are to be detected in a larger area or further analyses are required, camera-based solutions may be of interest.

In applications where detection has to be done directly on the cylinder, with no physical interaction between the sensor and the detected object, magnetic sensors are the right choice. They enable monitoring piston positions on cylinders and grippers by identifying the magnetic field of the piston's integrated magnet through the actuator wall. These sensors offer reliable and wear-free contactless position detection, eliminating such factors as contact erosion and bounce, and ensuring clean contact points. This reliability extends even to high-speed movements, with a consistent recognition of the piston position. Depending on the design of the cylinder, we offer a variety of options for any imaginable application.

Whenever it is necessary to measure liquid levels or the amount of bulk material in a box, a glass container, or a tank, our ultrasonic and capacitive sensors are the perfect solution. Depending on the specific necessities of the given application, we offer a variety of sensors that detect bulk solids or liquid material through non-metallic container walls, from the top of the tank. In applications with no tank at all, measuring material level is also possible.

When object detection is done through physical contact, mechanical sensors are the right choice. Such sensors are used for positioning and limiting switch tasks on machine tools and presses, in flexible production centres, and robots. They are also applied in assembly and conveying equipment, as well as in machine and plant construction.
