From November 12-14, 2024, the SPS - Smart Production Solutions in Nuremberg revolved around innovations in the automation industry and the question: How can industrial manufacturing be made more digital and efficient through automation solutions?
Balluff had an answer to this and presented the latest innovations in networking technology and sensor technology. The focus was on products that reduced the complexity of systems while offering higher performance and maximum safety.

These were our highlights:
A new take on safety: Our trade fair visitors could take a glimpse into the future of roduction system safety: As one of the leading providers of IO-Link solutions, Balluff introduced IO-Link Safety at the SPS – a new safety standard for the industry. IO-Link Safety ensures safe communication between safety devices and the control system in the plant, minimizing the risk to workers and machinery.
Network technology that meets every requirement: The newly expanded network portfolio was the absolute highlight. Depending on the required performance and application area, plant operators can choose from four different product lines: The Black Line forms the core of the new portfolio. It is characterized by an optimal price-performance ratio. The Silver Line is suitable for specialized applications that require a high level of robustnes. Product lines for washdown environments and safety applications respectively complement the range.
Upgrade in Condition Monitoring: One of the new products featured at the trade show booth: the condition monitoring sensor BCM Generation 2 which combines several monitoring functionalities and enables frequency-selective analysis. Compared to its predecessor, it features a significantly improved measurement performance in the detection of high-frequency phenomena.
Beyond visible light: In the area of machine vision, Balluff presented the new models in the industrial camera BVS CA product family. They feature SWIR sensors (short-wave infrared) which use the short-wave infrared range of the light spectrum up to 1,700nm, reliably detecting things that are not visible or hard to detect for traditional cameras and the human eye. This makes them particularly suited for monitoring tasks in the semiconductor as well as the packaging and food industries.

Digital component twins - the path from the hardware component to a digital behavior model
Discover the world of digital Balluff components: From hardware firmware to the 4D simulation model! In our presentation we will give some practical insights. Starting with the generation of real-time-capable 4D models based on simple CAD data, through their deployment on the TwinStore, to the use of TwinStore 4D models for various simulation projects. Together with our partner ISG, we will show you how you will be able to reduce modeling efforts thanks to ready-made 4D models from the TwinStore and thus make the creation of virtual plants much more efficient.
Smart sensors - the easy way to get started with condition monitoring
In the industrial environment, maintenance is one of the few areas that is still rarely automated. Identifying critical conditions at an early stage is the key to success. In order to be able to generate and process the necessary data, enormous computing capacities are required. Sensors for condition monitoring are becoming ever more intelligent and are able to execute more and more sophisticated algorithms and process large amounts of data decentrally. Many possibilities already exist today, but where is the journey heading?
