Inspire to Hire: Helping Students Find Their Future Careers

Worldwide, production jobs remain unfilled due to a lack of skilled workers. That's why it is important to get people interested in a career in this field at an early stage. Balluff Inc. found a way to do this through student events such as "Inspire to Hire".

Inspire to Hire: Helping Students Find Their Future Careers

Globally, manufacturing jobs are going unfilled due to a lack of skilled workers. This skills gap is expected to result in more than 2 million manufacturing positions going unfilled by 2030, causing a loss of about $1 trillion GDP in the US alone.

The US subsidiary Balluff Inc. in Florence, Kentucky, is also one of many companies working to attract and retain new and existing employees sustainably. To attract the right talent, Balluff uses the opportunity to promote a career in manufacturing professions at schools.

In March, Balluff had the honor of participating in the Junior Achievement Inspire to Hire event in Covington, Kentucky, to help get middle and high school students excited about their futures by exploring potential career opportunities. “Balluff is a family-owned company, and we feel it is important to give back to the community where our employees live and work. Participating in student events is just one way we can do that. These events help shape the future of the students as well as our company. Exposing young individuals early on to the opportunities available in manufacturing gives them options to consider as they grow, learn, and contribute to the future of their communities,” said Jenny Arbino, Director of Human Resources, Balluff Inc.

More than 4,000 students across Hamilton County, Ohio, and Northern Kentucky attended, trying their hands at some of the region’s most in-demand jobs and meeting with professionals and skilled tradespeople who explained all that’s great about their careers and what it takes to be qualified.

For the little ones

At its headquarters in Neuhausen a.d.F., Germany, Balluff offers a variety of opportunities to inspire young children and adolescents for a career in industrial automation.

he Technolino program starts with the very young, as Balluff apprentices and students teach technical knowledge and principles to nine kindergartens and elementary schools in the region. Topics covered include magnetism and the functioning of a lemon battery, sparking curiosity in the little ones.

Getting in touch

Children and young adults choose careers they've had some form of contact with. Often, they only know about them through media, parents, and neighbors. However, there's a vast world of possibilities out there that they should explore. That's why events like "Inspire to Hire" and the Technolino program at Balluff's headquarters in Neuhausen are crucial in introducing children and teenagers to the world of automation.

Balluff was supported in this worthwhile experience by over 50 other employers in the region, including Duke Energy, Cincinnati Children's, DHL, P&G, TQL, Ethicon, Messer Construction, and GE Aerospace.
