Multi-camera setup

Smart features for multi-camera operation

Our Smart Features for multi-camera setup support, facilitate and improve multi-camera operation. For example, you can exploit the maximum performance potential, simplify setup, and significantly reduce installation effort as well as hardware, software, and development costs.

The smart features of the multicamera setup at a glance

Action Commands
These commands can be sent via unicast or broadcast to devices in the same subnet. Action Commands can be used to trigger one or more cameras via Ethernet for synchronization, e.g. by increasing or resetting counters or resetting timers. Although delays may occur in an Ethernet network, they are negligible in many applications. Action Commands simplify the wiring of your application.

Bandwidth brake
This feature enables the optimal distribution of the available bandwidth to the connected cameras. The basis is the definition of a limit that is available to the individual cameras - resulting in a reliably running multi-camera application. This also eliminates the need for external controllers, among other things, and simplifies cabling overall.

Camera synchronization via PTP, timestamp or PPS
To ensure that your multi-camera application runs reliably, our cameras offer various options for directly synchronizing and controlling multiple cameras with each other. These include.

  • Precision Time Protocol (PTP) IEEE1588 - a standard for synchronizing devices on an Ethernet network and part of GigE Vision 2.0, with microsecond accuracy

  • Timestamp - cameras can also be synchronized with its reset by an external signal; since this is not provided for in the GigE Vision standard, we have developed our own mechanism

  • Pulse-per-second (PPS) signal - can be fed into the network via PC with NTP to eliminate the drifting apart of multiple devices; using this signal, the devices can determine how long a second is and adjust the internal clock if the difference is too large

Convenient support for multi-camera applications eliminates the need for external controllers and simplifies cabling overall.
